How to find the best mortgage deals? Shop around
In the current economic climate, people are shopping around like never before; going to Lidl for some or all of their weekly shop, bringing a pack lunch to work rather than nipping out to Starbucks for a panini and latte, taking M&S up on their excellent 'Dine in for £10' offer rather than eat at a restaurant.
It is somewhat surprising to find that there are still people who never question or review one of the biggest monthly outgoings of any household: the mortgage payment. And despite the financial headlines and credit crunch warnings, it is still possible to shop around and find a great mortgage deal.
Tony Rice, of Bedford-based specialist mortgage brokers TMP Mortgage Zone, said: "The majority of borrowers can still get a good deal by shopping around. A basic rule of thumb is that the more equity there is in your home when it comes to a remortgage, or the more deposit a first time buyer has, then the better the rate you can find."
