House Prices Dip in August

According to the latest figures from the Land Registry, house prices in England and Wales fell slightly in August.

Prices dropped by just 0.1% taking the average home price to £155,968 - a figure 9.4% lower than in the same month last year.

Tony Rice, from Bedfordshire-based specialist mortgage and insurance brokers TMP Mortgage Zone, said: "Whilst we have had a little surge recently in house prices, the slight decline probably reflects the fact that the summer holidays always sees a fall in activity - in terms of sales and mortgages - people are having too much fun on holiday. But at least it also reminds the overly optimistic that the recent rises don't constitute a continuously upward trend."

This general picture masks some stark local differences. The price of prime country homes has gone up considerably due to a lack of supply and high demand, whereas prices in the north-west of England and the East Midlands have fallen by 13% and 10% respectively.

Testimonials

"Thank you so much for the superb way you recently handled the remortgage of our rented property. Not only did you keep us informed at every stage but you went way beyond expectations. You managed to secure us a nice lump sum and we now also pay less on the mortgage than we did before. Sheer genius!"
