The Real Cost of Buying a Home Remains a Mystery to Many

A survey this month found that almost a quarter of homebuyers didn't have a clue about the additional costs of buying a home beyond the deposit and mortgage.

Many of those interviewed completely failed to take into account other costs such as for the survey, solicitor fees and even Stamp Duty Tax.

Tony Rice, of Bedfordshire-based specialist mortgage and insurance brokers TMP Mortgage Zone, said: "I think most people recognise buying a home will be their biggest financial commitment, but it's worrying that so many people aren't taking into account all the costs associated with buying a home whether you're a first time buyer, remortgaging or moving house."
